How far are the routes?
There is a choice of six or twelve miles.
Where will the walk take us?
The Midnight Walk is a circular walk through Ipswich starting and finishing on the Cornhill (Ipswich town centre). Both routes will pass the hospice in Foxhall Road.
Is a map of the routes available?
A map of the routes will be posted out to you with your walker pack.
Do I need to specify which route I will take on the night?
When you register, you will be asked what route you will be taking, six or twelve miles. The timings for the evening, including the departure times of different groups, are given below:
8.30pm: Gates open
10.00pm: All walkers leave the Cornhill, Ipswich town centre
Will there be parking on the night?
Yes, there will be parking available on the night, details of this will be sent to you. Parking is free and will be manned by volunteer marshals.
Where is registration on the night?
Registration will take place on the night on the Cornhill, Ipswich town centre. This will be signposted.
Are there any lockers/storage facilities to leave things at the start?
How much does it cost to take part?
The registration fee is £10 per person with the early bird offer until Tuesday 31 January 2017. The cost will be £15 per person thereafter until midday on Thursday 18 May 2017. This covers the cost of administration, your Midnight Walk T-shirt, refreshments en route and your medal at the end. The registration fee ensures that all the sponsorship money you raise can go directly to helping our patients and their families, friends and carers.
When do I get my T-shirt?
These will be available early May 2017. Those who have not paid postage and packing to have their T-shirt sent will be asked to collect from St Elizabeth Hospice on the following days –
- Thursday 11 May 2017 5-8pm
- Saturday 13 May 2017 10-2pm
- Sunday 14 May 2017 10-2pm
Unfortunately we are unable to change the T-shirt size you request when you sign up.
Do I have to raise a certain amount of money?
We ask each participant to aim as much sponsorship as you can. By raising £108 you will pay for four music therapy sessions to help relatives, patients and bereaved by providing emotional release, relaxation and comfort.
If you raise £300 or over you will automatically be entered into a grand prize draw with the chance to win a bundle of prizes as our way of saying thank you! These include a bottle of fizz, a beauty treatment and New Wolsey Theatre tickets.
Can I collect sponsorship from people online?
You can create your own online fundraising page by visiting the St Elizabeth Hospice Giving website at www.stelizabethhospice.org.uk/giving. You can set up a St Elizabeth Hospice Giving page as part of your online registration to save time.
Can I Gift Aid my donation?
You can ask each person that sponsors you to Gift Aid their donation by ticking the Gift Aid box on your sponsor form, if they are a UK taxpayer or pay Capital Gains Tax. For every £1 they donate, we receive an extra 25p.
How do I hand in my sponsor money?
Please send cheques to: Midnight Walk Team, St Elizabeth Hospice, 565 Foxhall Road, Ipswich, IP3 8LX. Alternatively, you can bring the money to the Ipswich Hospice.
If you have set up a St Elizabeth Hospice Giving page, we automatically receive all donations made through the website, so you don’t need to do anything!
How long will the walk take?
The walk will take approximately two-three hours for a fit walker but there is no rush and we encourage all participants to go at their own pace.
The event is definitely not a race and there will be no pressure to finish in a certain time. There will be lead walkers as well as walkers at the back of the pack to ensure the last participants return safely.
Will there be any refreshments?
There will be refreshments on both the six mile route and the twelve mile route. There will be a hot chocolate waiting for you when you return to the Corn Hill. We recommend you bring water to take with you when you walk.
Will there be toilets en route?
Toilet facilities will be available at the start/finish, the rest point on the twelve mile route and at the hospice stop where both routes pass through.
Will it be safe?
Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. The event has been organised in conjunction with Suffolk Constabulary and the route will be well marshalled by volunteers.

What do I need to wear?
We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Your registration fee includes a T-shirt and we are encouraging all participants to neon fancy dress!
Can I bring pets?
No pets or animals are permitted on the Midnight Walk except guide dogs.
Do I have to be fit?
No, you can take it at your own pace. We do recommend that you should train before taking part and that you feel comfortable that you will be able to complete a long walk. The Midnight Walk is a fun event, designed for you to take at your own pace; it is not a race.
How old do I need to be?
Entrants must be 10 years of age or over on 20 May 2017.
Any walker under the age of 18 must include the name and authorisation of the parent/guardian who will be accompanying them on the walk on their registration form.
Can I walk with a group of my friends?
Yes you can as long as you all register as individuals. To make administration easier, we would encourage all groups of walkers to give themselves a group name. Details of this are on the registration form.
Why do I have to register again at the end of the walk?
Registering at the end ensures that everyone is accounted for. This way we will know if anybody is lost or missing. If you leave the walk early you must advise a member of the Marshall Team, who will be wearing high visibility jackets, or a volunteer at one of the rest stops.
Is there any other way I can support the event/Hospice?
If you are taking part, please spread the word amongst your colleagues, family, friends and neighbours. We also need a lot of volunteer support to help the event run smoothly; to get involved, contact the Midnight Walk team.
